Log Cabin Republicans: One Party, One Mission

by Danny Stevens Published March 2, 2025

We are proud Republicans who believe in the core principles of our party: limited government, strong national defense, secure borders, free markets, low taxes, personal responsibility, and individual liberty. These values are the foundation of the Republican Party—the Party of Lincoln—formed to expand freedom and end slavery. It is fully consistent with our legacy that we continue to lead the fight for equal rights and protections for all Americans.

Log Cabin Republicans is the nation’s oldest and most respected organization representing LGBT conservatives. Across the country, we give voice to thousands of gay and lesbian Republicans who strongly support conservative policies, including border security, Second Amendment rights, fiscal responsibility, and a strong military. We have local chapters in Houston, Dallas, and Austin.

While we share values with many in the LGBT community, we are unafraid to challenge the far-left agenda that seeks to undermine those values. We oppose:

  • Radical gender ideology that confuses and harms children in critical stages of development.

  • Government overreach that threatens free speech through compelled pronoun usage.

  • Policies that destroy fairness in women’s sports by allowing biological males to compete.

  • Drag performances in the presence of children, especially without parental consent.

Our mission is aligned with yours: to defend liberty, protect families, and promote America First policies.

We must come together to defeat the Democrats at every level—from local offices to the White House. And we must stand firmly behind President Donald Trump, rejecting the weaponization of the legal system and the political lawfare being waged against him. It’s time to say: enough is enough.

But we can’t do it alone. Recruiting new Republican voters—gay or straight—is made harder by language in our party platform that is outdated, unnecessary, and divisive.

One sentence in particular does not reflect our values or our future:

“Homosexuality is an abnormal lifestyle choice.” (See Plank 132; Page  24)

This statement does not advance conservative policy, nor does it reflect the inclusive, principled vision of President Reagan’s "big tent" Republicanism. Worse, it alienates voters we need to win elections and grow our movement.

Just as concerning is the continued refusal by the Republican Party of Texas to allow Log Cabin Republicans to host a booth at the state convention. Year after year, we show up to support the party we believe in, only to be denied a seat at the table. This exclusion sends the wrong message—not just to LGBT conservatives, but to every voter who values fairness, inclusion, and winning elections.

It’s time to remove divisive language from our platform and embrace a stronger, more united Republican Party. One that welcomes all who share our values, defends liberty, and is ready to take back America.

“And here is the challenge to you. It is the duty and responsibility of the volunteer Republican organizations, not to further divide, but to lead the way to unity. It is not your duty, responsibility or privilege to tear down, or attempt to destroy, others in the tent.”

– President Ronald Reagan (April 1, 1967)
